The Green Party continues to support Occupy San Diego, October 14, 2011 -
Join the movement that is sweeping the country. The top 1% of our nation control nearly half the wealth in this country, while the top 20% control a stunning 80% of it. This lopsided distribution of wealth, coupled with outsourcing of jobs, bailouts, secret loans, subsidies, and profiteering in the financial sector have resulted in massive foreclosures, retirement and investment fiduciary failure, job losses, homelessness and environmental disaster. We, the American citizens, must reclaim our country and put ourselves on the line for peace and justice. It is time for us to discover both who we — the other 99% — are and what we believe and want. Now is the time for us to act.

A San Diego Green Party press statement in support of the Occupy San Diego & Occupy Together movements is below:
San Diego, CA – 10/5/2011: The Green Party of San Diego (GPSD) stands in solidarity with the Occupy Wall Street protest in New York City; the upcoming October 6th Protest in Freedom Plaza in Washington DC; and, all the other on-going Occupation protests in the United States. We especially support the Occupy San Diego protest, which will begin Friday, October 7th at Children’s Park (Front Street and Island Avenue) at 4 pm, and proceed to the Civic Center Plaza, next to City Hall (1200 3rd Avenue).
“Corporate money and influence has led to a political system with skewed priorities and values. The crises of unemployment, health care, housing, and the environment, and our unjustified wars, can all be traced back to this.” David Morrison, GPSD co-chairperson.
“The Republican and Democratic leadership like the status quo. It works for them and for 1% of the nation. The Green Party objects to the status quo. We want what’s best for the remaining 99% of us.” Maggie Kennedy, GPSD co-chairperson.
We stand for the following:
1. An end to corporate personhood
2. Campaign finance reform, including public financing of elections
3. Shutting the revolving door between high-level government posts and the private sector
4. Raising taxes on the wealthy, having them pay their fair share
5. Ending corporate tax loopholes, including the moving of headquarters and income allocation overseas
6. Federal funding to end public sector layoffs and put people to work in jobs that lead to energy independence and improved healthcare, education, environment, and infrastructure.
The Green Party platform consists of Ten Key Values which were declared at the party’s founding

Unions and Occupy San Diego Solidarity Protest March
When: Saturday, 12/10 at 12:00 noon
Where: 1333 Front St.,San Diego, CALocal unionists in the newly formed Occupy San Diego Labor Solidarity Committee (OSDLSC) will rally and march from the downtown Social Security Administration (1333 Front St.) to the Occupy San Diego site at Civic Center Plaza, 3rd and B.
Follow this link for the rally flyer.
The marchers demand: (1) secure pensions and retirement for all, (2) full funding for Social Security with no cuts, (3) full funding for public services with no cuts, and (4) freedom of assembly for Occupy San Diego and all social justice movements. These demands are urgent because the dominant politics of today, from the Congressional Super Committee to State and local budgets, sacrifice the needs of workers and the 99% for decent retirement, basic services, and jobs, to the needs of bankers and the 1%. Meanwhile, authorities from San Diego City Hall to the University of California at Davis deny those organizing for equality their constitutionally protected right to freedom of assembly.
The OSDLSC was launched as a Committee of Occupy San Diego that aims to unify the labor and occupy movements, in order to strengthen both. We are inspired by the integration and power of those forces in New York, Oakland and elsewhere, and seek to build such connections locally.

The City of San Diego is holding three interactive meetings aimed at soliciting public feedback on the San Diego Climate Mitigation and Adaptation Plan (CMAP). “It is the goal of the 2011 CMAP to provide options for both city operations and the community to reduce (mitigate) greenhouse gas emissions and to begin to evaluate vulnerabilities in the community and outline adaptation strategies.”
This is an opportunity for us to show the City that there are many of us who think climate change should be a top priority for the city and to advocate for the most GHG-reducing scenarios that are being considered – in the short and long term. It’s also a great opportunity to network with other climate activists.
You must register for the meetings here: http://www.eventbrite.com/event/1925117077/eorgf (free but they want a count)

Talking points for the meetings - push for a plan that:
· Accomplishes the state's 2020 and 2050 emissions reduction goals
· Increases locally-produced, decentralized green energy (e.g., solar panels)
· Moves toward greener transportation (public transit over highways)
· Requires new and existing buildings to be energy efficient
· Creates local green jobs
· Protects community health
· Provides public advocacy and education on climate change
Other ideas for comments
· Can ask the city to publicly oppose the Tar Sands pipeline
· Can ask the city to publicly oppose SDG&E’s Network User Charge
· Your ideas welcome
Please thank the City for holding public meetings and acting on climate change.
