Join the Green Party and International Socialist Organization to determine what advocates of true healthcare reform can do to take power away from insurance companies and put it back in the hands of doctors and patients.

Help us show Representative Davis and constituents that what we want is single payer universal healthcare, not some watered-down “reform” of the insurance system. We have a list of questions for constituents to ask and signs to hold.

Protest SignThis Saturday, the State Bar of California will hold its annual meeting at the Manchester Grand Hyatt in downtown San Diego.

The Hyatt's owner, Doug Manchester, contributed $125,000 to the "Yes on Proposition 8" campaign, which after its passage, denied the fundamental right to marry to same-sex couples across California.

The CA State Bar plans to return to the Manchester in 2011!

San Diego Canyonlands logoStevenson Canyon in Clairemont is a beautiful urban canyon with lots of habitat for wildlife. San Diego Canyonlands (formerly Sierra Club) has been removing invasive plants, mostly palm fronds, which block and erode the streambed through the canyon, preventing normal flow of water out towards the bay and creating a fire hazard. Invasives are also a problem because they replace native plants which provide food and shelter for birds and other wildlife.

For this event, make sure to wear long pants, sturdy closed shoes, gardening gloves and long sleeves if possible.

I Love a Clean San Diego logoThis is part of the 25th annual California Coastal Cleanup, which started out just cleaning up beaches but now does 80-90% of its efforts inland, since tracing where the trash and blockages occur is one of the best ways to insure clean and healthy coastal areas. The California Coastal Cleanup is part of a worldwide effort which last year had a total of 400,000 volunteers! There are over seventy sites in San Diego county alone. I Love a Clean San Diego, which coordinates the overall effort, has provided water, some snacks, and free giveaways.

Email us at events@sdgreenparty.org to help cleanup Stevenson Canyon.

WHERE IS MY HEALTHCARE???

SING OUT FOR SINGLE PAYER
September 25, 2009, 7:30 PM

As the debate on how to resolve the nation’s health care crisis continues, one singular answer has been widely ignored in the public debate, despite its popular appeal: a progressively financed, comprehensive, universal health care system – otherwise known as single-payer. Get updates on the current bills in Congress and learn what you can do to get real health care reform passed.

The “Sing Out” presents musicians Jason Luckett (a Los Angeles based singer-songwriter who has been described as “Billy Bragg meets Stevie Wonder”) and Eric Schwartz (singer, comedian, and award-winning songwriter). Both Luckett and Schwartz were part of the “Sing Out For Single Payer” border to border road tour with Anne Feeney and dozens of musicians that started in La Jolla in July. Modeled after the traveling chautauquas of the 1930s they entertained, mobilized, educated, inspired and energized folks from La Jolla to Bellingham, WA.

The event will also feature a reading of Ladies for Single Payer, a new play by award-winning La Jolla playwright Anita Simons. The reading will feature some of San Diego’s finest actresses, including Jill Drexler, Dagmar Fields, Dana Hooley, and Veronica Murphy.
