Candidates/Elections
2012 Green Party Candidate for President

Jill Says: Stop wasting trillions on Wall Street, war, and tax giveaways for the wealthy. Make our economy work for everyday people.
End unemployment by investing in green jobs. Jill’s proposal creates eight times more jobs than the White House plan, and ends the recession.
End bailouts that gave $12 trillion in cash and free loans to the Wall Street institutions that crashed our economy. Put a moratorium on foreclosures. Break up the big banks to prevent future trillion dollar bailouts. Support state and community banks that invest in small businesses. And rewrite the Bush/Obama “free trade agreements” that sent 6 million jobs overseas and depressed wages at home.
Forgive student debt. Create tuition-free higher education. Obama’s plan merely adjusts payment plans for 4% of students and allows the student debt crisis to grow worse. It leaves college as unaffordable as ever.
Create health care as a human right through a Medicare for all system that provides quality comprehensive care, preserves patient choice and puts people before profits.
Stop climate change by creating millions of jobs in green energy, manufacturing, agriculture and public transportation.
End the Oil Wars that are killing soldiers and civilians, and draining trillions from our national treasury. Obama is leaving thousands of private military contractors in Iraq, and has twice as many troops in Afghanistan as George W. Bush.
Restore our freedoms and constitutional rights by ending detention of U.S. citizens without trial, the Patriot Act, First Amendment violations, and the doctrine of corporate personhood.

Green Party Presidential Candidate Dr. Jill Stein today announced her choice for running mate, the nation’s leading anti-poverty advocate, Cheri Honkala.
Honkala is National Coordinator for the Poor People’s Economic Human Rights Campaign, one of the country’s largest multi-racial, inter-generational movements led by the poor and homeless. Compelled by her own experience as a homeless, single mom, Honkala has spent nearly three decades working directly alongside the poor to build the movement to end poverty, and has organized tens of thousands of people to take action via marches, demonstrations and tent cities.

The Green Party is Looking for Great Candidates
The campaigning season for the 2014 election is just around the corner. The San Diego chapter of the Green Party is looking to recruit candidates to run for local offices here in San Diego County.
As a progressive third party which advocates for policies supporting the environment, social justice and the peace and prosperity of our nation, we would like to field candidates who are passionate about these issues. There are many offices up for election in the San Diego area in 2014, whether it be a congressional or a local planning board seat, and we are willing to assist with a campaign for any of these positions and to continue to build our base.
Civic engagement is the lifeblood of our democracy, and with the Republicans and Democrats often beholden to special interests and corporate money, third-party campaigns can stand up for the rights and needs of everybody else. Running for an election with the Green Party can give you a chance to speak truth to power and to do something, not only towards addressing the challenges we face as a society, but towards fixing our dysfunctional political system.
